Walnut Lamb Kofta Meatballs

ingredients:

Meatball Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground lamb 
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup ground walnuts
  • 2 Tbsps Olive Oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp dry oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dry mint
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts
  • 1/3 cup chopped parsley

instructions:

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 190C/375F
  2. In a large bowl mix all the ingredients for meatballs. Mix well until well combined
  3. Roll into balls, roughly the size of golf balls. 
  4. Place the balls on a greased baking sheet. Bake on middle rack for 18-20 minutes.  
  5. Remove from the oven and let them sit for 2 minutes
  6. Meanwhile, for the sauce,  in a large pan, sauté in olive oil the garlic and chopped onion until onion is translucent. Add the yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, salt and pepper. Heat through without boiling.
  7. When the meatballs are ready, add them to the prepared sauce. Turn to coat. 
  8. Serve warm, sprinkling some feta cheese, parsley and toasted pine nuts on top.
