Whole Wheat French Rolls
It’s all about finding ways to bring that guilt bar down a notch whenever I can. Especially when baking. We all know carbs are the number one source of after-meal-guilt. So dinner rolls become whole wheat, and suddenly, oh look! Guilt, what guilt?
Watching dough rise is a hobby of mine… I catch myself smiling and staring :)
Take out the butter! Spread it and indulge!

Instructions
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix all ingredients (except the 2 Tbsp butter), first with a wooden spoon and then by hand until a ball of dough forms.
- When all ingredients come together and pull away from the bowl, turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
- Drizzle some olive oil in the bowl. Return the dough to the bowl and roll around to cover with the olive oil. Cover the bowl with a towel and set aside. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down on the risen dough to deflate. Cut into 12 pieces and form each piece into a ball, tucking down the edges underneath. Place the balls on a grease baking sheet and cover with a towel. Let them rise for 30 minutes. Start preheating your oven now to 200C/400F
- Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of your oven and bake for 12 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and immediately brush with butter. Transfer the buns to a cooling rack, wait till warm and enjoy!
- Prepared garlic butter is an amazing option for brushing on top.
